The CBL Charitable Foundation awarded a $15,000 grant to Greer Community Ministries (GCM) to help purchase a new bus to help transport senior diners. The 15-passenger Ford Starcraft Allstar is equipped with handrails and grab bars for easier access.
“This bus is a great improvement over the van that we had been using to transport Senior Diners to and from the ministry,” said Cindy Simpler, GCM executive director. “It is safer and it makes it much easier for them to get on and off.”
GCM’s Senior Dining program is for adults 62 and older who are mobile, alert, and cooperative. About 25 diners attend the weekday program where they are provided a time of fellowship, an entertaining or informative program, and a warm, nutritious lunch.
“We are so grateful for CB&L’s support,” Simpler said. “Transportation for seniors is a huge issue and because of them, we can now provide safe transportation for senior citizens in our area who would otherwise be home bound.” CBL provided funds in 2011 for GCM to purchase its first bus.
According to Jennifer Jones, Executive VP at CBL, “Citizens Building and Loan seeks ways to serve the needs of the citizens within the community. GCM is a wonderful, non-profit organization that embraces the opportunity to provide local citizens food, clothing and fellowship. CBL is privileged to support these much needed programs GCM offers that help so many.
