J. Thomas (Tommy) Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Citizens Building and Loan (CBL) of Greer, will retire effective December 31, 2016, according to CBL Board Chairman Ralph W. Johnson III. CBL Executive Vice President Jennifer T. Jones of Greer has been named to succeed him as president and CEO.

  1. Use cash. Instead of using your credit or debit cards, use cash for non-bill spending such as eating out, gas, groceries. Spending cash makes the spending more real, and there’s an added advantage of knowing when you’re out of cash, instead of spending more than you actually have.

  2. Make small weekly savings transfers. “Pay yourself” by setting up an automatic transfer that deducts a set small amount that you can live without from your checking account to your savings account. It will really add up over a year’s time!
